“In very good and friendly hands!”

As both my parents and most of my grandparents suffered from varicose veins, it was no surprise that I did too; they were very unsightly even when I was a teenager. However, I had both legs treated before I was 25, I assumed that was it. So about 2 years ago, it took me some time to realise that the dull ache in my right foot was not going away... and then a blue vein began to appear. By the time I visited my GP, it was not only unsightly, it was a constant source of background aches.

Luckily for me, my proactive GP suggested Mr Gaunt, for which I shall be forever grateful. Within a week or so we'd agreed a plan, and I was booked into the Spire at a date to suit me. I had a local anaesthetic, and frankly I was scared about that but Mr Gaunt's team kept me entertained throughout and I would highly recommend this route if available. In complete contrast to my experience 25 years ago, this time I was up and about, and home, the same day. I started my mile-a-day walks the next day and have not felt any pain from my foot ever since.

The follow-up injections have had a wonderful side effect - I no longer have ugly blue bruises behind my knees! These injections feel a little like a stinging-nettle sensation to me, but only for a moment; I'm up immediately afterwards without any pain, and the very small marks fade within a few days. And I feel so good about myself now that even wore a bikini - without hiding behind a long sarong - for the first time in many, many years this summer.

I know this will sound odd but I have truly enjoyed the whole experience! I am very grateful to Mr Gaunt, and his expert, kind and friendly team, for looking after me so well. I would advise anyone who is concerned about their own veins to have a chat with their GP, or directly with Mr Gaunt's team, as soon as they possibly can.
